How we score
The SEO and GEO scores in Website SEO Checker: GEO & AI Visibility Audit by Seolytics and in Seolytics site audits come from our own checklist. They are not Google's ranking factors and don't predict positions: a page can score 100 and rank nowhere, or score 60 and rank first. Use them to find what keeps search engines and AI search from reading a page, and to see whether a fix worked.
Page scores
The extension checks the page open in your browser. Each page starts with 100 SEO and 100 GEO points. GEO is our score for AI search: whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google's AI answers can read the page and quote it. Every problem found takes a fixed number of points off one or both scores. Passed checks and tips take nothing, and a score never goes below 0.
Both scores are our checklist, not ranking factors. Search engines don't publish a formula, and no score can promise a position or a citation.
Access barriers weigh more than advice
An access barrier means Google or AI search can't read or show the page at all. Advice makes a page that can already be read better. So a barrier costs many points and a piece of advice costs a few. For example, noindex, a robots.txt rule that blocks Googlebot or a server error each take 12 SEO and 30 GEO points, while an article without a named author takes 4 SEO and 10 GEO.
A problem can weigh differently in the two scores. When less than 30% of the page's text is in its HTML and the rest appears only after JavaScript runs, the page loses 12 SEO and 30 GEO points: Google renders scripts, if later, while most AI crawlers don't run them. A missing title takes 12 SEO points and nothing from GEO. Blocking AI search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot in robots.txt takes 30 GEO points; blocking only crawlers that collect training data, such as GPTBot or Google-Extended, takes nothing.
Some checks depend on the kind of page. A missing author or date costs points on an article and is only a tip on a home page or a product page.
Score version
Scores are counted by version v1. If we change the weights or what counts as a problem in a way that changes the score of the same page, the version goes up and the change is listed here. When the version changes, the extension doesn't compare a new check of a page with older checks, so a change in our math never shows up as your progress or your loss.
- v1Since version 1.0 of the extension. The weights described on this page.
Site audit scores
A site audit crawls the pages of a site, from your browser with the extension or from our server, and groups what it finds by problem type: server errors, noindex pages, missing titles, broken internal links, duplicate content and so on. Site scores also start at 100, and each problem type takes points once, however many pages it has.
Problems that keep pages out of search or AI answers weigh the most: server errors or text that appears only after JavaScript can take up to 12 SEO and 30 GEO points. Tips, such as long titles, images without alt text, deep pages or a missing llms.txt, take nothing.
Share of pages
A page problem costs according to the share of crawled HTML pages it affects. It takes at least a quarter of its weight and grows with the share, reaching the full weight when half of the pages or more have it.
points = weight × min(1, 0.25 + 1.5 × share of pages), rounded
A missing title weighs 12 SEO points. On 1 page of 100 it takes 3, on 10 pages of 100 it takes 5, and on 50 pages or more it takes all 12.
Problems of the whole site take their full weight once. When robots.txt blocks Googlebot, the site loses 30 SEO and 10 GEO points: Google builds AI Overviews and AI Mode on what Googlebot can read. When it blocks AI search crawlers, the site loses 30 GEO points. A missing sitemap or no HTTPS takes 4 SEO points each.
Pages with noindex count in v1 even when they are kept out of search on purpose, like an account page or a cart. The next steps in the app leave pages that look deliberate out of the plan.
Googlebot check and comparing audits
Audits check whether robots.txt blocks Googlebot on the start page, the home page, the crawled pages and the URLs from the sitemap, up to 1,000 addresses in all. An audit that ran this check carries a mark. If the site has no robots.txt, everything is open and the audit is marked too. If robots.txt didn't answer or returned a server error, there is nothing to check and the mark is missing.
Older audits have no mark: server audits from before this check was added in October 2026, and audits from your browser with Website SEO Checker 1.0.3 or older. On a site that blocks Googlebot, such an audit scores up to 30 SEO and 10 GEO points higher. So we compare scores only between audits with the same mark:
- the Dashboard in the app shows no up or down arrow when the two latest audits differ;
- the audit history marks older audits “Googlebot not checked”;
- the comparison of two audits lists the Googlebot problem as not checked rather than as new or fixed;
- for AI agents, the Seolytics MCP server returns
googlebot_checkedwith every audit.
AI search check
The AI search check in the extension's Rankings & AI tab shows whether AI search cites the page. One run asks three AI searches (ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity) the page's top queries, up to three of them. These are the searches that bring the page the most Google traffic in Rankings. If Google has no searches for the page, we take queries from its title and headings or its top keywords.
- One answer per query and search. Each search gets each query once, in the country and language you chose, so one run has up to 9 answers. In each answer we look at the sources it links to: this page, another page of your site, or neither.
- Where the answers come from. ChatGPT and Google AI Mode answers come from their live web interface. Perplexity is checked through its API model, which may answer differently from the Perplexity app.
- Searches that fail aren't counted. If a search doesn't answer, the result counts only the searches that did.
- A repeat within a day may come from cache. We keep answers for 24 hours, so running the same queries again within a day can show the same answers. Check again after a day or more to see a change.
AI answers change from run to run and from person to person. One run is a sample, not a ranking or a share of all answers: “cited in 2 of 9 answers” means 2 answers in this run.
